Although quarried by the Ancient Greeks on the Iland of Euroea, it was very popular with the Ancient Romans as well (Marmor Caristium) and supposedly the first coloured Marble brought in to Rome where there are today over 500 columns. Fragments of the Marble were found in the ruins of Carthage and other Ancient cities of North Africa. First used in England in 1898 for the vestibule of the Royal Academy of Arts.
