So called as it was used in the manufacture of Septimus Bassus' Villa near Ancient Rome. Often confused with the Breccia Violetta type quarried in Seravezza, Italy. However, the genuine material (which tends to have a diagonal flow to the figuring) used to quarried on the Greek Island of Skyros in the Aegean Sea. There were many varieties of this Marble, the material here is generally regarded as the Classic type.
