MarbleAntique › Alabastro Egitto
First quarried near the town of Alabastron in Egypt, from where the name Alabaster may have been derived.  It has been used by the ancient Egyptians for decorative work since the first dynasty.  Specifically for Sarcophagi, the lining of Tombs and the paving / internal adornment of their Temples.  Best known example in England is the Sarcophagus of Seti I (the Father of Ramases II) carved from a single block of Alabaster now at Soane Museum, London.
